Lecture-Concert No. 1 of fiscal 2002

“Music in Heike monogatari (The Tale of the Heike) No. 1”

The Research Centre for Japanese Traditional Music of Kyoto City University of Arts is pleased to announce that it will hold its first lecture-concert for fiscal 2002 according to the details below. This is the first in a planned series on music in Heike monogatari (The Tale of the Heike), the epic tale and chanted narrative of the rise and downfall of the Taira family in the twelfth century.

2 to 4 p.m., December 7, 2002 (venue open at 1:30 p.m.)

“The biwa (lute) player Taira no Tsunemasa: the visit to Chikubushima and Tsunemasa's flight from the capital”

Part 1: Chikubushima-moode
Part 2: Tsunemasa no miyako-ochi

Lecture & commentary on the pieces by Steven G. NELSON (Associate Professor, Research Centre for Japanese Traditional Music)

Performance by ARAI Yasuko (transmitter of the Maeda-school tradition of performance of heike biwa)

Participation:

Cost of participation is ¥1,500, to be paid at the door. Reserved seating for 90 persons only.
